Peacock Pearl

Netsuke (2023)

This collection steps into the liminal space between the real and imagined, the physical and digital. These miniature AI sculptures are inspired by Japan’s rich history and tradition of the Netsuke. Netsuke emerged as a practical solution to dressing in 17th-century Japan, as fasteners that sit on the cords of an inro box attached to a man’s kimono. Over time, these objects became treasures of exquisite craftsmanship and were highly collectable, signalling their owners' interests, discernment, & relative wealth.

My ‘NETSUKE’ collection is a contemporary take on tradition that imagines and intertwines impossibly ostentatious materials with potent symbolism. Using the medium of AI informed by historical research and rich imagination I create jewel encrusted tiny treasures, symbolic of wealth, affluence and fine taste, bringing a whole new meaning and class to the idea of ‘digital collectables’.

Each piece is stamped with artist seal and DALL·E watermark.
